The Shaman's Territory: Sacred Storytelling and Shamanic Journey - Holly Baade
BANG YOUR HEART OPEN and experience the timelessness of the great mystery with HOLLY, your guide to The Shaman’s Territory.
“Scream, I want to scream Breathe, Breath isn’t coming
. Feet, Feet want to Run
. Movement, Movement isn’t coming. Cry. I want to cry. Tears, Tears are not falling.
Wait, something else is happening.” The Joyful Warrior Journals, 2005
Ten-years ago, HOLLY had a dream. A Native-American spirit called, “The Chief” came to her in an afternoon nap. He offered her a life-review through the smoke of a campfire and told her to “stop playing the fool.” She saw how she had been “shape-shifting” to match other people’s idea of who she should be. In the dream, she was invited to meet the presence of her – behind the personality. Joy and a state of natural bliss washed over her that has stayed with her ever since. In the dream, The Chief, also handed HOLLY a magical pipe asked her to “inhale.” As she drew the mystery into her heart, she felt a painful “pop” and then sat bolt-upright in bed gasping for air. When she came to her “senses” she realized inhaling the pipe had changed her physical make-up – so that she could no longer “see” the world from just her five-senses and her mental processes –rather she was magically re-wired so that she could “taste” the soul within all of life. She could truly “see” from her heart. Since that time, HOLLY has been able to feel where soul is, and where – it isn’t. Her primary work as a shaman is as a soul-catcher, or retriever of lost-souls. She also teaches others how to perceive more of reality and journey into the Shaman’s Territory.
In this workshop, participants will enjoy HOLLY’s Shaman Spells, or soul songs, to set the space in a sacred way. She will then share some of her stories from the Shaman’s Territory and guide participants through a series of interactive exercises to open up their “heart-sight.” As the culminating highlight, all will be invited to lay down, close their eyes and take the deep dive into the entrainment of the shamanic state of consciousness with HOLLY’s live drumming.

Power is not found by forcing ourselves, but rather by finding our Self. If you want to improve the state of your being, and the state of the world, you’ve got to go on a Journey. A pilgrimage to the center of your soul, where awaits your total empowerment and joyful enlightenment. HOLLY is a spirit-initiated shaman and founder of The Joyful Warrior Shaman School in Northern California. With haunting medicine chants and sweet invocations, HOLLY takes up her drum to open a portal to where spirit, lives. Through sacred story and spiritual allegory, she paints a picture of the Soul’s Journey in the Shaman’s Territory. HOLLY has presented at Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle, Wanderlust and The California Spirit Festival. She is a Masterful Spirit Guide and Shamanic Spell-Caster who Holds Light and teaches how to Live with Spirit & Bring Love to Life.

Ayurveda and the Mind - Anna Wiens

Ayurveda, an ancient healing modality originating from India 5,00 years ago, and the longest continuously practiced medicine in the world, is based off of the premise that “all disease is rooted in the mind.” Every symptom has a base in the mind. Ayurveda, which was developed by seers and sages, has a highly sophisticated system for analyzing, purifying, and redirecting the mind. The ayurvedic approach to the mind not only heals the body, but takes the spirit to higher realms and on the road to enlightenment. In this workshop we will focus on how our actions, speech, and thoughts affect our energy fields, our physical bodies, and our karma. We’ll explore ways to bring the mind back to balance, bring peace and harmony into the body, and transcend the ordinary experience.

Anna Wiens is an ayurvedic counselor that is focused on brining these simple yet profound practices into mainstream America. While she does offer ayurvedic consultations and ayurvedic focused yoga classes, she has a passion for teaching this beautiful science. Wanting individuals to feel empowered to take control of their own mental, physical, and spiritual health and not have to rely on others to bring health into their lives. During the workshop Anna will guide in connecting with themselves via these ancient ayurvedic and yogic techniques so they can make decisions and have the tools to create their own vibrant, thriving future self. Through out the years she has taught at co-ops, festivals, and small group gatherings from Vermont-Hawaii.

Buddha Bomb
Buddha Bomb was born in our Solar System on the planet Neptune. Meanwhile, at the same time on Earth, it was the 22nd day of February. Friday afternoon. Quarter past 5. Just in time for Happy Hour.

Buddha Bomb was born a Pisces in the Year of the Water Dragon.

A direct descendant of the great god Neptune, Buddha Bomb left that planet for Worldly pursuits. Buddha Bomb quickly became disillusioned with our World. Earth was good, although a little flat. Something was missing and Buddha Bomb was determined to find it.

Early in life, at the tender age of 8 Earth years, Buddha Bomb questioned authority, asking if God existed or not. After being told that God doesn’t want him to think such things, Buddha Bomb reasoned thusly: If there is no God, then there is no Supreme Being to prevent Buddha Bomb’s thinking process. Or, if there is a Supreme Being, Creator of the entire Universe, then He must be a Big enough God to allow Buddha Bomb such thoughts. In both cases, Buddha Bomb opened up.

Two years later, Buddha Bomb made the Universe disappear. Having seen his reflection in the Vast Expanse of Nothingness, the Universe arose again. His journey continued inward, and deeper. Living the life of an American Hippie, Buddha Bomb experienced just about everything Imaginable, and many things Unimaginable.

Buddha Bomb traded long hair and a beard for Buddhist teachings and a meditation cushion. After meditating in Holy places for many years, his heart and mind were open. Buddha Bomb heard Techno Music with the power to transform consciousness. Buddha Bomb’s calling became louder.

Phutureprimitive
Phutureprimitive is the moniker of Bay Area producer and songwriter Rain. Early childhood photos reveal Rain sitting at the piano plinking keys, grinning from ear to ear… a true sign of things to come. Continuing his early fascination with music, Rain was later drawn to electronic music, inspired by its ability to combine the best of organically played instruments and the synthetic pleasures of sounds more exotic to the human ear.

After beginning a DJ career in the 90s, Rain began incorporating the music he was making in his home studio into his DJ sets. That was all it took to trigger a full blown love affair with electronic music and the process of its creation… and Phutureprimitive was born.
Phutureprimitive‘s music is singular and unique in its approach. Lush melodies drift across intricate rhythms, groove heavy beats and warm, fuzzy bass lines. Often exploring a dark and dense palette, his music also manages to convey a sense of tranquility and beauty, engaging the listener into hypnotic movement and often escalating into a full-on kinetic experience.

Shimmering with cinematic qualities, Phutureprimitive’s music ultimately speaks to the body, mind and soul.
Despite electronic music’s tendency to suffer a short shelf life, Phutureprimitive has already demonstrated a timeless quality with his debut album “Sub Conscious” on Waveform Records, which remains the top seller on the label since its release in 2004, obtaining a cult status among fans and collectors.

With a string of singles released in the interim on various labels, the birth of Native Harmonix (Rain’s own Record Label) brought us the “Luminous” EP in 2010; delving into a lyrical based production, supported by undulating synth work and a palpable haunting texture throughout.

His second full-length release “Kinetik” forged new territories of emotional electronic dance music, exploring a heavier, bass-centric sound that adds raw energy to intricately detailed tracks. “Kinetik” still remains on the iTunes Top 100 Electronic Music Chart, 3 years after its release.

With a new collection of songs released in 2 parts titled “Searching for Beauty in the Darkest Places,” he takes ideas from his previous releases and supercharges them with hard-hitting dance floor appeal, while maintaining the depth and prowess this trusted producer is so well known for.

His first national headlining tour in Fall 2013 debuted his collaboration with ritual dancer Caeli La. The tour launched with the release of the first official Phutureprimitive music video, “Lucid Dream,” a collaboration with multi-media production team Vinton Depiction & Michael Miller, the animation/visual effects creator behind NBC’s “Grimm.” The Dance Out Your Demons Tour featured an interactive game with the audience, where the audience members write down a “demon,” fear, or something they are letting go of on a piece of duct tape, stick it to the bottom of their shoe, then “dance out their demons.”

HÄANA
Echoing the sounds of the Nordic coast and urban dance halls, sound artist HÄANA blends traditional melodies and improvised instrumental/vocal music with cutting edge electronic sounds, counting Massive Attack, Björk, Phaeleh, Trentemøller, and Ólafur Arnalds as influences in crafting her production. The resulting sonic palate takes listeners on “a kind of Massive Attack-esque mystical journey” (PopMatters), whose destination is a crossroads between classical and contemporary, organic and man-made, familiar and mysterious. HÄANA has shared the stage with numerous musical giants (The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Bassnectar, MOBY, The National, EOTO) and appears on releases by Irma Thomas, Beats Antique, Random Rab, An-Ten-Nae, Desert Dwellers, among others. “Sonic stardust.” (Vogue) “Luminous frequencies and violin instrumentation tied with foreign Icelandic lyrical messages are found in her voice…” (AfroMonk) “It has the ability to seep into your soul in ways only orchestral and electronic music can.” (Infectious Magazine)

Living Light
Living Light is on a mission to uplift and inspire her listeners. This is a mission that Arise Music Festival 2016 can hop on board with. Living Light’s danceable yet soothing, melodic, euphoric, and sometimes mysterious. The music of Living Light offers glimpses into fantastical worlds filled with fluttering flutes, deep dub baselines, and sparkling electronic fairydust, topped off with the occasional sample-drop of knowledge; just enough to pull anyone out of the daily grind and inspire daydreams of what could be. These are the feelings Arise Music Festival wants to highlight.

It simultaneously refers to living non-materialistically, maintaining a positive outlook, as well as all life originating from star-stuff. Living Light’s first full length album “Ecliptic Visions” was released on Desert Trax to an overwhelming response, holding steady as Beatport’s #1 Dub/Reggae release for 3 weeks straight, and landing at #2 and #3 in Beatport’s Chillout and Electronica charts. A new 2-part album and a boat load of remixes are currently rolling out for 2016.

With coast-to-coast festival appearances, a Beatport chart-topping album, and releases on Desert Trax continuing to roll out, she shows no signs of stopping any time soon. Make sure not to miss Living Light at Arise Music Festival August.

Dirtwire
Dirtwire sits on the back porch of Americana’s future, conjuring up a swamptronic space cowboy sound with traditional instrumentation, global percussion, and electronic soundscapes.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalists David Satori (Beats Antique) and Evan Fraser (Hamsa Lila; BOLO), each performance brings the audience to a mysterious crossroads at an imaginative and seductive moment in time. The result is a rebirth of Americana and beacon for a post-millennial return to down-home goodness.

The Dirtwire duo met at the California Institute of the Arts while studying World Music Composition. Both members of other successful music projects – Satori as part of the sensational electronic dynamo group Beats Antique and Fraser at the helm of world groove bands Hamsa Lila and Stellamara – their unique chemistry led to a continued musical friendship throughout the years.
In 2012 they released their debut album, attracting everyone from electronic dance junkies to traditional world and roots music toe-tappers. With their first self-titled release, Dirtwire was introduced to the world and a new family was founded.

Following their 2012 debut, an unlikely meeting with Kongar ol Ondar in San Francisco led to the creation of their second release, the Ondar EP, featuring the Genghis blues legend on vocals along with remixes by Dimond Saints and 310 that intertwined the sounds of tuvan throat singing with organic world beats with a tribal dance floor rhythm. Later that year, The Carrier EP was born featuring vocals by Rising Appalachia in the stand-out single, “The Well.”
