To farm truly sustainably, we have to lose ourselves. We have to return to the Earth, return to the cycles. Agroecology is using ecology within agriculture to better understand and harmonize with the cycles that are naturally occurring in the earth. This job is as much observation and research as it is hands on work. One of the biggest problems with our current paradigm of farming is the tendency to plant things that sell rather than things that grow well in the land. We are sharing this environment with balanced ecosystems of plants and animals, and we must become conscious of the methods we can use to harmonize our practices with the natural makeup of our environment. We come from the earth. We return to the earth. And in between, we garden.
