Chimney Choir combines folk harmonies, ambient electronics, and swirling textures of rhythm and melody into a style of music that is not easy to define. Chimney Choir began in 2011 with a guitar, mandolin, and suitcase drum and have since toured the country extensively, released 5 recordings, and developed layers of electronics, live looping, and percussion. Chimney Choir still remain fascinated with folk music and traditions while they constantly evolve and experiment – their performances often take on a theatrical quality that has incorporated puppetry, ritual, dance, storytelling, and interactive video.
Later that year they collaborated with local actors and filmmakers to produce ‘The Fifth Wall’ at Lannie’s Clock Tower Cabaret. The show was part concert, part sci-fi thriller in which the band unveiled a revolutionary device that could communicate with other dimensions, and subsequently destroyed it in order to save the universe from harm. Arise Music Festival 2016 welcomes this energy into the festival, and encourages people to participate in being part of positive change.
