¡Los chicos Malos! is a newly formed group comprised of Jonny Jyemo on drums and timbales, Victor Mestas on keys, Scott Messersmith on congas, Gonzalo Teppa on Bass and Jose Alberto rounded out the sound on lead vocal. The band plays a combination of Cuban jazz, salsa, cha cha’s, and is based in the Denver area. As a five piece, the band can stretch out and approach the music with a more open mind and open format. Sometimes feeling more like a Descarga, this group is guaranteed to have you shaking it.
Scott Messersmith and Jonny Jyemo will also be teaching a workshop – Explorations in Afro-Cuban Percussion. We will explore clave and how it relates to latin music and how it is the central pattern which dictates the relationship to the beat. We will check out a rumba yambu, rumba guaguanco and rumba Columbia. We look forward to sharing this music with you!
